Remittances down 2.52% in Oct, but continue to show improvement

Remittances to Bolivia dropped 2.52% year-on-year in October 2010 to US$89.1mn, but continued to show signs of recovery across the year, after posting the fifth consecutive month-on-month rise, the latest figures from central bank BCB show.

Compared with September 2010 figures, remittances were up 11.8% from US$79.7mn, BCB figures show.

In the first 10 months of 2010, Bolivians abroad sent home US$769mn, down 9.27% from January-October 2009. BCB said that during the first four months of 2H10, remittances reached similar levels to those seen before the 2008-09 global economic crisis.
