Remittances pick up pace, grow 14.9% in April

Growth in remittances to Nicaragua has picked up pace with a 14.9% increase in April compared to the same month in 2010, following a brief slowdown in March, according to the latest figures from central bank BCN.

Nicaraguans abroad sent home US$73.3mn during the month, compared to US$63.8mn in April 2010. But the figure was down 5.42% from March.

Overall for the first four months of the year, remittances to Nicaragua were up 8.25% to US$288mn, BCN figures show.
