Remittances up 51.7% in December, marking second-highest 2010 monthly figure

Remittances to Paraguay were up 51.7% to US$26.2mn in December from the same month in 2009, marking the second highest monthly figure in 2010, in a strong sign of recovery from the 2008-09 global crisis, the latest figures from central bank BCP show.

December figures also marked three consecutive months of increased remittances in 2010. Money sent by Paraguayans living abroad increased by 10.8% when compared with November figures.

Overall for 2010, remittances to Paraguay amounted to US$274mn, up 36.1% from 2009.
