Historic center overhaul to take 18 months

A total of 350 engineers and technicians will work on the revamp of electrical infrastructure in Mexico City's historical center that will take 18 months, state power company CFE reported.

The news followed the signing of a project agreement between CFE and the federal district (DF) government.

Demand in the area from 27,832 clients now reaches 50MW versus 10MW 40 years ago when the current system was built, according to a company statement.

CFE has pegged the cost of the modernization at an estimated 700mn pesos (US$57mn).

In a separate release, the DF government said the work will span 124 blocks and begin in January.
