Prolec GE to pump US$50mn into Monterrey expansion

Prolec GE, a JV between Atlanta-based GE Energy and Mexican group Xignux, will invest US$50mn to expand its manufacturing operations in Monterrey, Mexico.

The project focuses on two of Prolec GE's product lines including power and commercial transformers, GE Energy said in a statement.

The expansion aims to address the needs of utilities, EPC firms, developers and independent power producers, in particular growing demand from the wind power generation market, the statement said.

Shipments from the added capacity are scheduled to begin in the second half of this year for commercial transformers and in 2H09 for power transformers.

Prolec GE serves the NAFTA and international markets.
