Venezuelan state-owned mobile telephony operator Movilnet deployed 13 new base stations during February in the states of Vargas, Bolívar, Yaracuy, Amazonas and Zulia, the company said in a statement.
The operator deployed seven GSM stations, as well as three UMTS and three CDMA stations, according to the report.
In deploying these new base stations, Movilnet - fully controlled by state-run telecommunications operator Cantv - will expand coverage in areas where it currently offers service, and will also provide mobile voice in areas where it did not previously offer such service.
Venezuela ended last year with a total of 27.8mn active mobile lines, according to the latest data from telecoms regulator Conatel. The country's overall mobile telephony penetration reached 97% at end-Q4, the watchdog said.
