Peru's ICT sector grows for 68th straight month

The Peruvian telecom and ICT sector's production grew 5.8% in September, its 68th straight month of growth.

Production in the telecom sector alone increased 7%, driven by an 11.6% expansion in the mobile telephony. Internet services grew 8.6% while pay TV jumped 8.4%, according to statistics and technology institute INEI.

In the year through September, the telecom sector grew 10%; internet services saw a 12.6% increase, and pay TV expanded 11.6%, and the the telephony segment experienced 9.3% growth. Data and other telecom services grew 4.8%.

Mobile data traffic is expected to grow 22% annually in Peru, which may require additional investments in infrastructure.

The statistics bureau pointed out that the telecom and ICT sector grew at an average annual rate of 10.7% in the 2011-15 period.
