Peruvian telecoms operator Telefonica del Peru (TdP) expects to expand its national fiber-optic infrastructure by 50% by 2012, state news service Andina reported the company's corporate communications manager, Guillermo Denegri, as saying.
"With this project we will deploy fiber optic in 2011 and 2012 and reach cities such as Abancay, Andahuaylas, Cuzco, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Pucallpa, Tingo Maria, Tocache, Tarapoto, Moyobamba and Yurimaguas, among others," the executive said.
Denegri said the expansion involves deploying 1,500km of fiber optic across the country, according to the report.
TdP expects total investment for 2010-13 to reach US$1.5bn.
Telefonica del Peru is fully owned by Spanish telecommunications giant Telefonica (NYSE: TEF).
