Mexican telecoms operator Telmex (NYSE: TMX) has won a project to deploy mobile telephony services in Sierra del Querétaro region, local press reported.
Querétaro state governor José Calzada Rovirosa said the telecoms operator will be in charge of the investment for deploying aerials for the provision of communications services in the area. The project will benefit several municipalities including Jalpan de Serra, Arroyo Seco, San Joaquín, Pinal de Amoles, Landa de Matamoros and Tolimán.
The governor also highlighted that Telmex has been collaborating with the state on the deployment of free WiFi services in 300 public squares across Querétaro.
In the fixed telephony segment, the telco ended 2010 with 15.6mn lines, after a loss of 291,000 lines during the year.
Telmex also ended the year with 7.44mn internet connections, compared with 6.65mn at end-2009. Broadband connections reached 7.36mn at end-2010.
