Israeli construction company Solel Boneh has completed a 27.5km highway in western Guatemala's Huehuetenango state, President Oscar Berger announced in a statement.
The new highway will run from the center of the province west to Santa Ana Huista municipality on the country's border with Mexico.
Works were supported through a 150mn quetzal (US$19.4mn) loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei).
The route will increase trade, particularly for local coffee products, stimulating commercial development and tourism in the region, communications, infrastructure and housing minister Eduardo Castillo said in the statement.
"Before, to go from Santa Ana to San Antonio, you needed one hour; with the highway the route takes 15 minutes," said President Berger.
