Brazilian flat steel distributors purchased 263,200t in September, up 14.7% year-on-year, data from industry association Inda shows.
But September purchases were down 0.5% month-on-month.
Purchases include heavy steel plates, hot and cold-rolled sheets, hot-rolled galvanized and electro-galvanized sheets, pre-painted sheets and galvalumes.
Distributors sold 251,300t of products in September, up 1.7% year-on-year and 0.7% lower than in August.
Stocks totaled 895,200t at the end of September, up 1.3% month-on-month and enough to cover 3.6 months' worth of sales.
Imports slumped 27.4% year-on-year to 62,900t, but rose 41% compared to August, the association said.
Inda expects distributors' flat steel sales and purchases to drop 2.0% in October.
