The opening of a plant to cut, polish and facet precious and semi-precious stones in Wanda, in Argentina's Misiones province, was marked with the signing of an agreement between the Argentine mining department and the German Institute of Mineral Resources.
"This agreement will create a regional cooperative made up of more than 30 mining producers who have been working informally and independently in the area," an mining department spokesperson told BNamericas.
As part of the cooperation framework agreement, Argentine and German technicians began exploration activity in Misiones province to select potential areas to work. This will also include the study of non-metallic or industrial minerals in Corrientes, La Pampa, San Juan and San Luis provinces.
Authorities from both countries said they were interested in reaching new agreements to develop similar mining initiatives in other areas of Argentina.
