Brief: Anglo's El Soldado project poised for approval

Anglo American is poised to secure environmental approval for a project to extend the life of its El Soldado copper mine in central Chile.

The environmental evaluation service (SEA) of Valparaíso region (V) has issued a recommendation in favor of approving the US$1.4mn project, and voting has been scheduled for November 13, according to SEA documents.

The project optimizes the current mine plan by adding three sulfide deposits, to be processed between 2023 and 2026, as well as construction of a new explosives storage facility and additional facilities.

El Soldado is Anglo's smallest mine in Chile, and part of its Sur division together with Los Bronces. Copper production in the third quarter was up 2% to 10,900t.
