New rules for cancelation of telecom services in Argentina
New rules for customers to cancel their telecommunications services took effect in Argentina.
The objective of a new resolution published by the production ministry's secretary in Monday's federal gazette is to make this process simpler and faster for users.
The regulation encompasses telephony (fixed and mobile), internet and pay TV companies, as well as broadcasting services. The measures are expected to reach other segments such as banks and utilities over time.
As of now, providers must include on their website "at first glance and on the first access" a link through which the consumer may request the cancelation of the contracted service.
Such requests must be processed in up to 24 hours and the customer must receive a confirmation code through the same channel (phone, internet or similar) chosen to request the service cancelation.
The new rule, dubbed Resolution 316, also states that the service/support time companies devote to customer inquiries cannot be inferior to the time they devote to sell plans or attract new clients.
When the company provides the service exclusively via phone and/or electronically, service hours cannot be less than 8 per day from Monday to Friday.
Furthermore, companies must keep logs about the date and time users contracted a service and the date and time at which cancellation was requested.
