Oil, gas output up 35.8% in Jan-Sep. 2004

Bolivia's natural gas and oil production increased 35.8% from January to September 2004 compared to the same period of 2003, according to the national statistics institute INE.

Natural gas production increased 42.7% to 328 billion cubic feet (bcf) and oil production increased 19.3% to 10.6 million barrels (mb) in the period.

Over the nine-month period, the departments of Tarija and Cochabamba increased oil production by 74.7% to 4.08mb and 13.8% to 4.04mb, respectively, while Santa Cruz and Chuquisaca departments decreased their respective production by 17.6% to 2.23mb and 12.7% to 0.28mb year-on-year, INE said.

GAS

Of the 328bcf of natural gas produced in the nine-month lapse, 76.5% went into pipelines and 18.24% was re-injected, the statement said.

The main gas producers were the Sábalo field, producing 94.5 million cubic feet (mcf) of gas, San Alberto (46.4mcf), Río Grande (23.1mcf), Víbora (10.5mcf) and Vuelta Grande (10.2mcf), the statement said.

Bolivia's gas exports to Brazil through September of last year increased 47.7% to 188mcf, the statement said.
