ProInversión aims to award San Martín port concession by October - official

Peru's private investment promotion agency ProInversión expects to award the concession of the General San Martín port in Pisco region by October, an official from the project management office told BNamericas.

Authorities are currently modifying the bidding rules and concession contract, following observations made by some of the firms interested in the project, said the official.

The San Martín port concession project was first launched for tender in 2008, based on financial feasibility studies carried out by consortium Halcrow-Ikons-Chemonics. The terminal was expected to be awarded the same year, but was pushed back several times.

ProInversión had planned to receive offers in December 2009; however, the agency later pushed back the schedule until further notice.

The concession is expected to require an investment of some US$40mn. The initial project involved construction of a multi-purpose dock equipped with a container terminal and patio area.
