Chilean companies could save 80% of invoicing costs if they switched to electronic billing, amounting to a possible US$340mn saving if all of the country's firms made the change, IT industry association Acti said in a statement.
The potential saving is equal to 0.4% of the county's GDP.
Currently only 38% of invoices issued in Chile are digital.
Of the 21,000 companies which are authorized to use e-billing, 16,500 are SMEs.
According to the association, high savings are made in terms of printing, dispatch, storage and possible loss of documents.
