Chilean IT systems integrator Adexus has implemented a high-speed link by network solutions provider Ciena Corporation (Nasdaq: CIEN) to connect local and European observatories, local press reported.
Ciena's DWDM technology will allow Chilean observatories to remotely access information obtained in the country by other observatories through a high-speed fiber optics link. The 100km connection crosses the Atacama desert, in northern Chile, offering data transmission in real time.
"This communications project involved the connection of eight points or nodes, through a powerful 10Gb link," said Alex Ponce, Adexus government, health and education account manager.
This project was sponsored by the European Commission and coordinated in Chile by the academic network Reuna.
