Falling hard drive sales to be offset by surging NAS, says Iomega

Friday, March 9, 2012

US storage and network security solutions provider Iomega, a unit of storage solutions supplier EMC (NYSE: EMC), is changing its focus from HDD portable hard drives to Network Attached Storage (NAS), Guilherme Soares, VP of sales for the Latin America region, told BNamericas.

The company expects to grow 90% in NAS solutions alone this year. At the same time, "the contribution is falling from portable HDDs, so we'll lose some revenue there but we'll compensate with NAS growth. I think we'll end the year with total 15% growth," he said without providing hard figures.

The focus this year will be on growing the NAS solutions, Soares emphasized. "We'll be doing evangelization, channel training - focusing on developing the channel to support this growth." Currently about 70-80% of Iomega's business in Latin America is with SMEs, but with the network storage strategy, "the corporate market can grow more.... We believe that large corporations also need small solutions."
