Brazilian distributor of education publishing content Grupo A has signed a letter of intent to acquire compatriot e-learning company GSI Online, local press reported.
The timetable and financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
GSI Online was born in the technology incubator of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul state.
The deal is part of Grupo A's e-learning strategy after an agreement signed in August with global IT company Blackboard (Nasdaq: BBBB), under which the former will be Blackboard's exclusive representative in Brazil for five years.
Blackboard serves 20 clients in Brazil through Grupo A.
Acquiring GSI will allow Grupo A to offer customized content products, instructional content for digital media such as educational games and online courses, both for the corporate market and educational institutions.
Grupo A is a holding formed by publishing houses Artmed, Bookman, Artes Médicas, McGraw-Hill, Penso and Tekne.
