Argentina's server market is expected to expand 11% in value this year, compared with US$120mn in 2010, IDC senior analyst Juan Pablo Seminara, told BNamericas.
In terms of units, the market is forecast to expand 32% this year, compared with 21,600 units in 2010, he said.
According to IDC, in 2010 the server market grew 23.1% in value and 22.2% in units. x86 servers grew 26% in value and 22% in units last year, while robust servers grew 18% in value.
Sales this year will be mainly boosted by the government segment, Seminara said. "The government and education segments will account for approximately 30% of total server sales this year."
IDC said the government plans to acquire 8,000 servers for its "Conectar Igualdad" connectivity plan.
The analyst added that telecoms operators will continue to invest heavily in servers this year. Other key verticals in terms of server purchases will be finance and manufacturing.
In 2010, the telecoms segment accounted for 31.4% of total server market, while the finance segment accounted for 25%.
