Chile's national irrigation commission (CNR) has a budget of 2.2bn pesos (US$4.64mn) to carry out irrigation projects in regions XV, I and II during 2011, according to region I agriculture ministry director Gino Pizarro.
Through CNR, the ministry will provide some 267mn pesos to build storage tanks in region I province Tamarugal, paper La Segunda reported.
Local users will provide an additional 49mn pesos for the project, which will be used to irrigate some 33.3ha of land in the Camiña, Huara and Pica communities.
CNR provides funding through the irrigation law for projects that cost up to 600mn pesos, as long as at least 10% counterpart funding comes from local users.
