Peru's agriculture ministry (Minag) has built 410km of irrigation channels, 119 pressurized irrigation systems and 55 dams during the administration of President Alan García, which began in 2006.

In total, the ministry spent over 930mn soles (US$339mn) on projects and services in rural parts of the country, state news agency Andina reported.

Most of the projects were carried out in the country's mountainous and Amazonian regions, with the aim of improving the quality of life for rural inhabitants.
