Uruguay's transport and public works ministry (MTOP) has launched a program to improve roads, infrastructure and social institutions in 29 municipalities in Canelones department.
MTOP will spend 58mn pesos (US$3.11mn) on works, earmarking 2mn pesos for each of the 29 municipalities in Canelones. Local residents will vote on which projects are most necessary for their municipality, according to a presidential release.
Proposed works include improving access routes to the department's metropolitan area, as well as building the Camino Carrasco road between the Carrasco bridge and Avenida de las Américas. Other projects aim to improve areas such as potable water supply.
