Description

The Esperanza operation involves the mining and processing of ore, and production of copper-gold-silver concentrate and molybdenum concentrate. The ore is extracted from an open pit mine, subjected to primary crushing, and then delivered to the concentrator plant. The project also entails building power lines between Mejillones and Muelle Esperanza. The Esperanza mine is run by Minera Esperanza, 70%-owned by Antofagasta Minerals and 30%-owned by Japan's Marubeni. In June 2014, Antofagasta Minerals launched the integration process of its El Tesoro and Esperanza mines to create a new unit, Minera Centinela. Since the original EIS was approved in 2008, the company has submitted four optimization projects.
