The project calls for a rail line between the cities of Montero and Bulo Bulo to transport production from the ammonia and urea plants of state oil company YPFB in Bulo Bulo. The works will be divided into three stages: building a 93km stretch of track to connect Montero with Santa Rosa and the Yapacani river; connecting the river with Bulo Bulo, and building three bridges. In February 2015, Bolivia's government stripped China Railway of the contract to build a stretch of the Montero-Bulo Bulo line due to project delays. Works on the other two stretches are being carried out by Chinese firm CAMC Engineering and the consortium Yapilo, led by Spain's Puentes y Calzadas.
