AES Argentina Generación S.A., a subsidiary of US power group AES Corp., is engaged in the generation and distribution of electric power. AES Argentina has a diversified generation portfolio of 10 generation facilities, comprised of 61% thermoelectric and 39% hydroelectric capacity. These are ThermoAndes, EL Tunal, Cabra Corral, Los Caracoles, Ullum, Sarmiento, San Nicolás, Paraná, Alicura, and Guillermo Brown. All of the thermoelectric capacity has the capability to burn alternative fuels. The company primarily sells its production to the wholesale electric market. In 2011, the company sold its two distributors Empresa Distribuidora La Plata S.A. (Edelap) and Empresa Distribuidora de Energía Sur S.A. (Edes). AES Argentina was founded in 1993 and is based in Buenos Aires.
