Description:
Panamanian company AES Panamá is the country's largest power generator and the local unit of US power group AES Corp. It was incorporated as a result of a merger between Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Chiriquí and Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Bayano that took place as the country's energy industry went through a privatization and restructuring process in 1999. AES owns and operates a thermoelectric power plant, Estrella del Mar I, and five hydroelectric plants, Bayano, Estí, Los Valles, La Estrella, and Changuinola I. With 72MW of hydropower and 705MW of thermal capacity, the company's operations account for 25% of installed capacity in Panama. Its clients include local distributors ENSA, Edemet, and Edechi.
