Description:
Puerto Rican power utility PREPA (also known as AEE) is engaged in the production, transmission, distribution and sale of electric power. It provides electricity for close to 1.5mn consumers generated mostly at four power plants: Costa Sur, Complejo Aguirre, San Juan, and Palo Seco. Combined, the plants have an installed capacity of 5.839MW —69% of this power is generated at oil-fired power plants. PREPA's transmission network is composed of 2.478 miles of 230kV and 115kV transmission lines and its distribution system consists of 31.446 overhead and 1.723 underground power lines, as well as 293 substations. In 2021, these distribution and transmission assets began being transferred to Luma Energy, a JV of Quanta Services (Quanta) and Canadian Utilities Limited, an ATCO Ltd. Company for their operation and maintenance for a period of 15 years. Founded in 1941, the company operates as a public corporation of the Puerto Rican government.
