Furnas Centrais Elétricas S.A. is a Brazilian power company controlled by state-run power holding company Eletrobras. It is engaged in the generation, transmission and trading of electric power. The firm owns 20 hydroelectric power plants, two thermoelectric plants and three wind farms. Furnas also operates a 25.818km transmission system and 71 substations. The company also maintains and services a fiber optic network in the telecom sector. It is currently developing several projects, in partnership with other firms, such as the expansion of two hydropower stations: Anta (28MW) and São Manoel (700MW); as well as several wind farms in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia. Furnas Centrais Elétricas is headquartered in the city of Rio de Janeiro, and was incorporated in 1957.
