Yacimientos Carboníferos Río Turbio (YCRT), currently operating under the legal name Carboeléctrica Río Turbio S.A., is an Argentine company active in the coal mining, energy supply and industrial logistics sector. Its primary activity is the extraction and processing of coal from the Río Turbio coal basin in Santa Cruz province, a strategic domestic resource for Argentina’s energy system. The company also manages associated railway and port logistics infrastructure, connecting the mining complex to terminals at Punta Loyola and Río Gallegos, supporting coal transport and distribution.
Historically, YCRT functioned as a decentralized state entity. In 2025, it was formally restructured and renamed as a state-owned joint-stock company, Carboeléctrica Río Turbio S.A., with shareholding represented by Argentina’s energy and mining authorities. While the company’s registered legal domicile is in the City of Buenos Aires, its operational activities and assets remain concentrated in southern Patagonia, centered on Río Turbio and its integrated mining and logistics projects.
