Cardif, Seguros CLC lead 2008 complaint rankings

The Chilean P&C unit of French insurer Cardif and locally owned life insurer Seguros CLC have topped the 2008 complaint rankings issued by insurance and securities regulator SVS. The index, known as IRMA, is based on the number of complaints received by Chilean life and P&C insurers for every 1bn pesos (US$1.72mn) issued in written premiums per year. According to SVS's new report, Cardif Chile led the pack in the P&C segment with a score of 4.32, followed by locally owned Consorcio, with 2.31. As for life insurers, Seguros CLC scored 14.38, followed by Cardif's life unit, with 2.89. Last year, SVS received 3,122 written complaints against insurers, up 19% on 2007. SVS said 43% of complaints settled in 2008 were won by policyholders.
