Iridium Plans Sept Mobile Satellite Launch

International consortium Iridium is planning to launch a new satellite in September this year that will connect to a 66 satellite network to provide world-wide mobile telecommunications services.

In Argentina, Iridium will operate the new mobile services via Miniphone and Telecom Personal. Globalstar, Iridium's largest competitor launched its first four satellites last week, and will begin services by the end of 1998.
