Minag invests US$12mn in Cajamarca irrigation projects

Peru's agriculture ministry (Minag) has spent nearly 34mn soles (US$12mn) on irrigation infrastructure in Cajamarca region since 2009, according to agriculture minister Adolfo de Cordova. The ministry is currently carrying out more than 1,500 individual works and two irrigation projects in the region, state news agency Andina reported. Minag will invest 11.5mn soles in 2010 to carry out projects including flood protection, building new water intakes, a dam and 2,920km of irrigation canals. In 2009, Minag spent more than 11.5mn soles to build 4,000km of irrigation canals serving 97,000ha of land in largely low-income parts of the region.
