PPC joins with agribusiness to run deepwater port in Colón

The Panama Ports Company ( PPC) has joined with agribusiness enterprises to form the Desarrollo Posicional company to build and operate a bulk port on the Atlantic side of the Panama canal, Capital Financiero reported. US agribusiness giant Cargill as well as local food processing companies Empresas Melo and Panavícola will form the joint venture with PPC to run the deepwater port in Colón to improve the companies' transport logistics, an unnamed source was quoted as saying. Works are expected to begin in about two months. PPC officials were not immediately available for comment when contacted by BNamericas to find out further details.
