Japanese storage services and hardware provider Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has appointed Walter Sunkel as the regional director for its recently created Spanish South America (SSA) region, the company said in a statement. The region encompasses the direct operations in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela as well as indirect operations in Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia. Before taking on this new position, Sunkel worked for three years as HDS' regional director for south of Latin America. *** Chilean IT systems integrator Adexus has achieved Cisco's (Nasdaq: CSCO) "Advanced Data Center Networking Infrastructure" specialization, certifying the integrator's expertise as Cisco's data center partner, Adexus said in a statement. Adexus says it is Cisco's first partner in Chile specialized in data centers, and as such the integrator will now have access to sales and services training, as well as permanent support from Cisco. *** The regional government of Junín, Peru, has delivered 2,656 laptops to 73 schools, as part of the government's alliance with the One Laptop per Child ( OLPC) organization, government news agency Andina reported. Peru has become the largest partner of the XO laptops from OLPC in Latin America, with some 152,000 laptops distributed in the first half of this year alone. *** Brazilian insurer Marítima Seguros has selected SAP (NYSE: SAP) CRM to manage the relationships with its customer base and network of 13,000 brokers, SAP said in a statement. The insurer selected SAP over four other companies because the solution presented a greater adherence to Marítima's business processes, and enables a fast return on investment. *** The Chilean unit of German multinational Siemens has appointed Pablo Mato as the new country manager for Siemens IT Solutions Services, in addition to his current position as Latin American director for the public sector, the company said in a statement. Mato has an undergraduate degree in computer science and a master's degree in international business. He joined Siemens in 1998 and prior to that was commercial manager at Unisys.
