Roundup: Regional road improvements

Paving works on a 257km stretch of Peru's Chupaca-Yauyos-Cañete highway have started and are scheduled to finish by year-end, government news agency Andina reported. The highway connects the Chupaca province in Junín region to the Yauyos and Cañete provinces in Lima region. The consortium Consorcio Gestión de Carreteras (CGC) is carrying out the 131mn-sol (US$45.0mn) project on the Pacarán-Roncha stretch. Once completed, the road will provide better market access for farmers, and boost tourism. The initiative is part of the Proyecto Perú program which aims to carry out improvements, maintenance and prevention works for three or more years on the large longitudinal and transversal roads that connect the coast to the mountains and the mountains to the Amazon. *** With a 25mn-sol investment, paving works kicked off on a 28km stretch of the highway that connects San Pablo and San Miguel provinces in Cajamarca region, Andina reported. The project is being jointly financed by the national and Cajamarca governments. Consorcio Perú, formed by construction firms Superconcreto del Perú and Gestión & Ingeniería, is carrying out the project, which is scheduled to wrap up in 270 days. Brazilian firm Engevix is supervising the works. The initiative will reduce travel times and the cost of transporting goods to market. *** Huánuco regional president Jorge Espinoza has inaugurated paving works on the road that leads to the Kotosh archaeological site, Andina reported. The 3km road cost 8.31mn soles and included the construction of a parking lot at the center, signaling and viewpoint areas. At the same time, the transport and communications ministry ( MTC) has started maintenance works costing 67mn soles in preparation for a project to pave the 120km from Huánuco to La Unión, in Dos de Mayo province.
