Salmon Farmers Reportedly Reject Alumysa Compensation

Salmon farmers in southern Chile are not prepared to accept a proposal, said to have been made by Alumysa aluminum project, to pay them compensation, Santiago business daily El Diario reported. The salmon producers say the US$2.75bn project to produce 440,000tpy aluminum is incompatible with their US$1bnpy export industry. Alumysa's environmental impact study is currently being considered by regulators. Toronto-based mining and metals company Noranda (TSE: NRD) is behind the project. No one at Noranda was available for comment when contacted by BNamericas.
