Acts of vandalism against the integrity of the North Peruvian Pipeline represent a danger that requires to be stopped

The North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) is once again the target of attacks by protesters who channel their claims, seriously affecting an essential public infrastructure for national oil production in the jungle.

These acts of vandalism not only mean the imminent risk of a spill but also the possibility of an explosion with serious consequences such as the loss of human life and the affectation of the ecosystems of the area.

It should be remembered that the ONP is a National Critical Asset (ACN), which, therefore, must be protected to guarantee a safe and sustained operation of the transportation of hydrocarbons, but above all to safeguard the integrity of people and care for the environment. .

From the Peruvian Hydrocarbons Society we call for the immediate cessation of these violent acts that threaten state property, the authorities in charge of guaranteeing security and public order must identify those responsible for these reckless actions so that they answer for their Actions.

Let us remember that during the year 2022 there have been 14 premeditated cuts against the ONP pipeline, events that are still being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office to identify the perpetrators. These attacks have meant economic losses for the company in excess of S/ 232 million soles and serious environmental damage.
