Mexico City, November 29, 2022 . Latin America must advance in its development agenda, using all the instruments at its disposal; in particular by taking advantage of the extraordinary information and communication technologies that are now available, said Daniel Hajj, CEO of América Móvil.

When participating in the inaugural session of Mobile360 Latin America of the GSMA (World Organization for Mobile Telecommunications and Connectivity), and the Latin American Council for Digital Transformation (CLDT), he commented that there is currently a complex international panorama, caused mainly by economic inflation , the increase in interest rates and the loss of purchasing power, but it is also a time of opportunity, where telecommunications increase its importance as a strategic sector.

He recalled that due to the confinement caused by COVID-19, the switch to the economy was turned off, but the switch was raised to digital technology, thus making better use of digital technological solutions in response to the current environment. He pointed out that 300 million Zoom sessions were held worldwide per day; online sales increased 50% in just two years; while 70% of small and medium-sized businesses increased the use of digital technologies due to COVID.

“We can affirm that this period represents a watershed, not only in telecommunications, but in the instruments to achieve development in general. It's time for opportunities," he said.

He pointed out that the telecommunications infrastructure has lived up to the global challenges, since in the last 10 years unprecedented investments have been made, allowing the fixed Internet to increase its speed more than 200 times, but maintaining its price level.

He explained that globally, significant investment in the sector is still required to achieve resilient infrastructure; spectrum availability avoiding high costs that affect accessibility; smart devices at adequate prices and a tax framework that promotes coverage and accessibility of people to services.

He added that at América Móvil we are aware of the strategic importance of telecommunications and the responsibility that the company has as one of the main operators worldwide. "Over time we have transformed, innovating and responding to the challenges of each moment."

He highlighted that the company is carrying out tasks to strengthen the infrastructure, with greater coverage, to close the adoption gap with relevant programs for the provision of equipment and payment of services; and to address the consumption gap, through relevant content that allows everyone to fully benefit from the benefits of the new technological era.

With a vision of the future, he added, América Móvil will continue as a pioneer in innovation, advancing with 5G technology, promoting digital environments and intensifying cloud services, so that no one is left behind in development, which means that no one is left behind. no connectivity.

América Móvil is a company that invests, grows, has sustainability principles and is a company that cares about continuing to contribute to the well-being of the people.

With a presence in 23 countries where it has 381 million accesses, more than one million kilometers of fiber optics, 32 data centers, 25,000 kilometers of submarine cable and five satellites, América Móvil is a convergent company with fixed, cellular, band broadband, TV and ICT services.
