Aneel updates Roraima power auction prices

Brazil’s power regulator Aneel updated the rules for the power supply tender for Boa Vista city, Roraima state.
Prices changed for the first phase, in which availability contracts for each product will be closed . Previous rules established maximum prices of 754 reais (US$188) per MWh for gas and renewable sources, and 1,078 reais per MWh for other sources. The energy ministry required an update to a maximum price of 1,078 reais per MWh for all sources during this stage.
In the second phase, when each product’s annual energy supply capacity is considered, the maximum price remains at 409 reais per MWh.
The auction will take place on May 31 with supply due by end-June 2021. The government will offer contracts for several supply solutions using different technologies and fuels, with or without power storage.
With the negotiations, Aneel wants to improve power supply for Roraima, the only Brazilian state not yet integrated into the main SIN grid. The state depends heavily on imports from neighboring Venezuela and on diesel-fired plants.
PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS
The energy ministry started three public consultations on Tuesday. The first one will last 30 days and aims to receive contributions on the annual compulsory goals for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions on fuel sales between 2020 and 2029.
The other consultation will be open for 45 days. It considers procedures for the calculation and revision of energy guarantees from solar power plants. Another public hearing regards the adoption of an hourly PLD (short-term electricity prices index) and will receive contributions for 30 days.
Further information on the public consultations is available on the energy ministry’s website, in Portuguese.
