Argentina, Chile complete 'historic' gas swap

Argentina and Chile conducted their first natural gas swap for a total volume of 4Mm3, which the latter country's national oil company Enap branded as "historic."

In a statement, Enap said the swap, which took place over the weekend, entailed the delivery of 2Mm3 from Argentina's Neuquén province via the GasAndes pipeline (pictured) to the GNL Quintero terminal in Chile's central Valparaíso region (V).

The shipment allowed the terminal to operate during programmed maintenance to cover resident and industrial demand in Chile's central zone, according to the NOC.

Enap added that the delivery of 2Mm3 back to Argentina must take place within 48 hours of receiving the Argentine gas.

Enap coordinated the delivery with Argentina's national energy company Enarsa and private Chilean firms Aprovisionadora Global de Energía and GasValpo.
