Argentina to resume work on scores of water projects

Argentina will resume work on 270 public works projects over the next 45 days, of which over half correspond to waterworks.

“Some 7mn Argentines don’t have [piped] drinking water,” public works minister Gabriel Katopodis told state news agency Télam, adding that the projects, which were halted because of the COVID-19 outbreak, will create 50,000 jobs.

Ninety-three of the projects are the responsibility of Buenos Aires water utility AYSA, 11 of national waterworks agency ENOHSA, 46 of the national water policy and infrastructure office (SIPH) and 28 of the Matanza Riachuelo river basin authority ACUMAR, sources from the public works ministry told daily Cronista.

In other areas, 23 projects are the responsibility of national highways office DNV while 69 fall under the public works ministry. These works include road paving, health and education infrastructure.
