BP Energy contracting well services in Brazil

BP Energy is carrying out a tender to hire well construction services in Brazil, a source close to the matter told BNamericas. 

"BP confirms that there is future activity planned in the Pau Brasil block, but does not share contracting strategies or details related to its activity," the company said in a statement.

The drilling campaign is expected to take place in 2024 in the Santos basin exploration block, off the country’s southeast coast. 

Besides Pau Brasil, the British oil firm operates – also in the southeast region – the C-M-755 and C-M-793 blocks in the Campos basin, and S-M-1500 in Santos. 

In the Barreirinhas basin, which is part of the geologically praised Equatorial Margin, BP operates the BAR-M-346 block. 

As a partner, the company holds stakes in the BM-BAR-3, BAR-M-175, Alto de Cabo Frio Central, Dois Irmãos and C-M-477 blocks. 

According to oil and gas watchdog ANP, the last time BP drilled a well in Brazil was in 2014, in the Campos basin.  

Meanwhile, the company has moved forward with several projects in other areas. 

BP is part of Gás Natural Açu (GNA), with Prumo Logística and Siemens Energy, which is developing a natural gas and electric power hub in Açu port. 

Part of the Rio de Janeiro state hub, the GNA I gas-fired plant, which is connected to a floating, storage and regasification unit (FSRU), is already in operation. 

BP has also been active in the biofuels and electric power sectors through BP Bunge Bioenergia, Lightsource BP and BP Comercializadora de Energia, as well as in the aviation and maritime fuel distribution segments via Air BP and BP Marine/ NFX.
