Brazil deploys 5G-powered smart lighting systems
Brazil deployed 60 public, 5G-powered smart lighting systems in five cities in four states, with seven more localities expected to get similar systems.
The deployment is part of the Conecta 5G project championed by industrial development agency ABDI, which partially finances installation. The current budget is 10mn reais (US$1.96mn).
The lighting system with 5G antennas enables the use of other services and applications, such as surveillance cameras and facial recognition. The suppliers are Juganu, Nokia (radio) and Qualcomm (chipsets).
They were installed in Curitiba (Paraná state), Sorocaba (São Paulo), Ceará-Mirim (Rio Grande do Norte), Araguaína (Tocantins) and Pato Branco (Paraná). The latter, according to ABDI, used its own resources.
Subsequent activations through the end of February are planned in the states of Pernambuco, Maranhão, Ceará, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.
In addition, 25 lamp posts with 5G antennas are planned to be deployed at the industrial pole of Manaus, a free trade zone with over 500 companies, later this quarter.
