Brazil toll road traffic edges up in March

Traffic on Brazilian toll roads rose slightly in March due to the effects of carnival, according to highway concessionaire association ABCR.

Compared to February, flows increased 0.5%. Light vehicle numbers were up 0.9% but heavy goods traffic contracted 1.2%, the association said in a release.

This year, carnival holidays were in March, while last year they were in February. During the holidays, highways are used much more by light vehicles than trucks.

In the first quarter, traffic rose 1.2%, with a 0.7% rise in light vehicles and a 2.7% increase in trucks.
