Brazil's Odata to build Mexico’s ‘largest datacenter’

Brazilian datacenter group Odata, which is controlled by private equity firm Pátria Investimentos, announced the construction of a datacenter in Mexico’s Querétaro city (in photo), its third outside Brazil.
With a constructed area of 30,400m2, Odata said the datacenter will be the biggest built in Mexico to date. The facility will have capacity of 32MV and space to store 4,000 racks, the company said.
The site is expected to be activated in early 2022 and future datacenters in Mexico are not ruled out.
The project is budgeted at US$100mn, a company spokesperson told BNamericas.
“We chose Querétaro not only because it is located in a less seismic region, but mainly because of its proximity to important economic centers and because it is a hub of fiber optic backbones that are crucial for our end customers.” Odata's CEO Ricardo Alário said.
“Querétaro is consolidating itself as an important datacenter hub in Mexico and we believe in the enormous potential to be developed in the country, which is the second largest information technology market in Latin America.”
The move follows the announcement of datacenters in Colombia and Chile.
In July, Odata submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) to build a facility near Santiago with investment estimated at US$271mn. According to the Chilean government, the project is in the evaluation stage.
The Colombian building, located in Bogotá, was opened in June 2019 and was the company’s first facility outside Brazil, where Odata operates three datacenters.
More recently, US submarine telecoms network provider Seaborn Networks chose Odata to host its Seaborn system and function as an interconnection point for the Seabras-1 submarine cable between New York and São Paulo.
In addition to Pátria Investimentos, Odata has as a financial backer US datacenter real estate investment trust CyrusOne.
