Brazil's Serpro inks direct contract with Amazon Web Services
Brazil federal data processing firm Serpro has signed a 71.2mn-real (US$14mn) contract with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of US giant Amazon, for the provision of various datacenter services.
AWS was contracted directly, with a bidding process waived and no offers made by other providers.
According to the terms of the contract published in Brazil's federal gazette, the “business partnership” with the cloud services provider is for “the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) modalities.”
The contract is valid for five years, but further details were not disclosed. AWS has made no comment on the deal.
ISH TECNOLOGIA
Serpro also selected the company ISH Tecnologia for the provision of datacenter network solutions using SPINE-LEAF topology, based on software-defined networking (SDN). In this case, however, this was done through an electronic bidding process.
The contract, for some 8.43mn reais, goes into effect as from September this year.
It should be noted that Serpro is on the federal government’s list of companies to be privatized in 2020.
Serpro is among the publicly-owned ICT companies most likely to pass to private sector control, along with Dataprev, the data processing company for Brazil's social security agency INSS, and semiconductor manufacturer Ceitec.
