  • The contract of more than 130 million euros represents CAF Mexico's second export production, after delivering trains to Metro Manila.
  • Manufacturing begins in March 2023 and is estimated to end in 2025.

Mexico City, December 20, 2023.- CAF Mexico announced that, through a project worth more than 130 million euros, it will export 23 electric trains for Auckland Transport in the city of Auckland, New Zealand, which will be manufactured at its plant in Huehuetoca, State of Mexico with Mexican talent.

The production of these trains, with a capacity of 380 passengers each, will begin in March 2023 and is estimated to end in 2025. This is an extension of the contract awarded to the CAF Group in 2011 for the supply of 57 electrical units, to which which 15 units were added in 2017. Likewise, the possible expansion of this project in 5 additional units is contemplated.

The trains, with three cars each, are made up of two end motor cars with cabs and an intermediate trailer car. Its structure will be made of stainless steel, each one incorporating two doors on its side for the entry and exit of users. The intermediate car will have a low floor, which will facilitate access to the unit for people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users.

The trains will be of the Regional Electric type, with a length of 72 meters per train and which can reach a speed of 110 km per hour. These incorporate the latest generation systems such as displays, cameras or Wi-Fi and systems necessary to achieve the highest security levels on the market: ERTMS, DVS, event recorder and ground train radio. Also, its technology will make it possible to know the exact number of passengers transported, as well as the number of passengers who have boarded and descended on the trains at each station.

CAF Mexico recently completed the official delivery of 28 trains that the company manufactured entirely with 100% Mexican labor for LRT Line 1 in Manila, Philippines, corresponding to a contract worth 225 million euros.¿

Maximiliano Zurita, General Director of CAF Mexico, shared that this new project for the Huehuetoca plant is the result of the high quality standards of other trains that have been manufactured at the CAF Mexico plant through Mexican technology and talent.
