Lima, May 2026. – With the aim of meeting the energy demand of the Pampa del Pongo megamining project, one of the largest iron deposits in Peru located in Arequipa, Celaris Energy, through Eólica Caravelí S.A.C. and Jinzhao Mining Perú S.A., signed a key agreement that gives continuity to the accord for the mine’s electrical connection, through the future Caravelí 220 kV Substation, a facility that aims to become a strategic node for the power system in the south of the country.
The CEO of Celaris Energy, María del Pilar Matto, emphasized that this agreement reflects how energy becomes a driver of development for strategic sectors such as mining. “At Celaris Energy, we work so that large-scale projects have reliable, competitive, and sustainable infrastructure, capable of strengthening both business operations and the interconnected system,” she highlighted.
Matto explained that, as part of the agreement, Celaris Energy will provide the necessary spaces and facilities within the Caravelí Electrical Substation for Jinzhao to implement a new interconnection aimed at ensuring access to energy for its operations, allowing progress in the integration of the mining project into the electrical system and strengthening the capacity required for one of the most significant investments planned in southern Peru.
“The agreement is being strengthened at a time when large industries have been incorporating more efficient and sustainable energy alternatives, driven by greater demands for competitiveness, operational continuity, and reduced environmental footprint in international markets,” the executive said.
The Caravelí Substation will be part of the new energy infrastructure that seeks to consolidate southern Peru as a key area for industrial development and the transition toward a more sustainable matrix, enabling the integration of large-scale operations into the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN).
“This project represents a commitment to modern infrastructure that is ready to support the growth of strategic industries in the country. Our goal is to continue promoting initiatives that contribute to the energy transition, business competitiveness, and the country’s sustainable growth,” concluded María del Pilar Matto.
It should be noted that the Caravelí Wind Farm is a non-conventional renewable energy megaproject developed by Eólica Caravelí S.A.C., operated by the generation and marketing company Celaris Energy. In this context, the agreement was signed between Eólica Caravelí S.A.C. and Jinzhao Mining Perú S.A..
